My Luck Redefined

I'm in awe today with the beauty of my own child. I don't intend to be vain or dote on physical appearance, but I just can't stop looking at her. I wouldn't change a thing about my sweet girl. It probably would be better stated by saying I'm in awe with the love I feel for my baby. This too is very true. I'd think she was beautiful no matter what. I've never considered myself a lucky person. I'm an accountant turned mommy. Accountants are calculated, not lucky. Now my brother - he's just a lucky guy. When we went to Vegas last year I asked Gus if he wanted me to place a bet for him....he laughed and said, "No way, I know your luck." He was better off just going and buying a lottery ticket. My Granny is also very lucky. She is s substitute for a bunco club and when she plays she ALWAYS wins. Mom and I joke about why they keep inviting her if she is just going to show up and win. When I'm discussing being lucky I'm referring to times of playing games, the lottery, BINGO, and the likes. I've realized that all those times when I griped about not being lucky I was not looking deep enough to see how lucky I really am. I have a loving God who has blessed me with 2 wonderful parents that are still happily married, a wonderful husband, a very special extended family on both sides, a fairly sound financial situation, and now a sweet, beautiful, and healthy daughter. The list goes on and on. That being said, I will now consider myself a very lucky and fortunate person. All the little things that people think about when determining their luck do not matter when you have all the truly meaningful things in life. Lena Kate is such an amazing addition to my list of reasons to be profoundly grateful to God for what he has bestowed on my family. Sure, we have hardships, but these hardships make us stronger and remember to cherish all the good things in life. I pray that as you read this post or find yourself hiding under the bed like Missy in this pic, you will challenge yourself to recognize all the good that God has provided in your lives.

We are off to the ranch this weekend to celebrate Valentine's Day in the country with Papa. We can't wait. Mimi is in McAllen visiting Aunt Bernice who has been very sick this week. She was doing better yesterday, but we continue to pray for her improvement.

Of course, one of my angel baby
