Wonderful Weekend

We had a wonderful weekend with Sarah here to visit. It wasn't one of those let's see what all we can get done in 2 days kind of weekends. We decided we didn't want to make any plans and it was great. Lena and I went to the airport to pick up Sarah after I got one of her favorite Texas foods that you just can't get in Nashville for dinner. We had tamales! Of course I got made fun of again by Lane because I put ketchup on mine. Apparently we do things differently in Mathis. I think my dad taught me to eat them this way. It was a tradition Christmas Eve at Grandmother's house to have tamales with ketchup. Try it before you knock it.

Side note of apparent weirdness: My family calls a frito pie a chili special. Not until I married Lane did I realize this was only in my family. I guess Mom made that one up. I'm going to carry on the tradition!
Back to the weekend: We just relaxed, visited and watched TV Friday night. Saturday we got up and got Lena Kate dressed. We then went to visit Amy and Charles. Charles decided he wanted to sit in Lena Kate's car seat. He is a little big but such a cutie. He now has to vie for attention when the baby is in the room. He decides he needs to "hurt" himself so somebody can kiss it and make it all better....little faker:) After a nice visit we proceeded to Target and then to get Whataburger for lunch-another Texas favorite. The rest of the day we watched movies and just relaxed and enjoyed each other's company. We cooked a nice steak dinner with broccoli and rice casserole. It was better than going out for sure. We just spent the evening watching Jeff Dunham. I managed to snoozed through 1/2 the afternoon movie and then again when Sarah and Lane enjoyed some wine and watched the movie Tropic Thunder. Of course, Ms. LK was snoozing right along with me. She is so cozy to snooze with these days. Sunday morning we slept in a little and then had a yummy french toast breakfast. Unfortunately Sarah's visit had to come to an end and I sadly took her back to the airport. I sure do miss being able to have these kind of weekends with Sarah more often. We visit about once a week which is nice, but it isn't the same as being able to watch a movie, shop, or just hangout. Life just doesn't always accomodate some of the things we would love most. It just makes the time we do have together more precious.

Sarah, we love you and can't wait to see you again. I know you will be as special to Lena Kate as you are to me. Thanks for helping out and taking time and $$ out of your busy schedule to come and see us. It was a fabulous "lazy weekend" watching girl movies and just "being." We couldn't kid ourselves into thinking we could get totally caught up so just acting like we are together all the time was nice and comfortable. Lena Kate enjoyed sitting with Sarah and I know Sarah will make a great mother someday. I look forward to going to Nashville to visit her when the time comes.

Lena Kate also managed to have a few firsts this weekend-not the kind you look forward too either. She had her first diaper blowout....and it happened to soak through onto Sarah's shirt. Nothing like a little "mustard" stain on your pretty white shirt. Fortunately, she was ok with it and we were able to get the stain out of both Sarah's shirt and LK's outfit. Then Ms. Lena decided that she wasn't through when I went to change her diaper the next day. It was all over the changing table. Good thing it is nylon and wipes cleans easily. The Shout Gel came in handy this weekend for the clothes.
Sarah is as much of a picture girl as I am (if not more so). She managed to take 62 pictures in less than 48 hours. Here are a few of my favorites from the weekend. We always have to have at least one of us together. I had to put at least a little makeup on so I didn't look soooo tired after she took the first one of us and I made her erase it.
Stand-up comedy didn't interest her quite yet.

LK wasn't cooperating. Doesn't Sarah look great? She motivated me to get back in shape ASAP.

Angel - sleeping at Gus and Amy's

Charles trying to buckle himself in. He's such a big boy these days. He makes my little girl seem so small still.

Movie time

Pretty ladies!

TV time with Mom - Mom's looking a little tired these days.

I hope everybody else had a great weekend and starts the week on a happy note. We have a busy week ahead....cleaning, Leelee coming to visit, shopping for mirrors with Amy, and hopefully lunch with the girls.

I think ketchup w/tamales is a Mathis thing. I get the same reaction. OBTW, my family calls frito pie a chili special too. Maybe another Mathis thing?

LK is getting more beautiful by the day.
